Probably be more released later, but Skye is the new locum tenens attending in the ER first mentioned a while back.

Skye has been made acting chief. Moretti is gone.

Skye tells Morris to get a life when he tries to tell her how to be chief.

Luka pops into the ER. Tells Pratt he does not want to be chief again. Luka will be starting back to work in a week.

Pratt asks Luka for a letter of recommendation. Seems he's thinking of looking elsewhere for work.

Abby gives Luka a look when he says Niko (his brother) has taken the baby to the zoo.

Luka apparently breaks up a fight at some point in the ep.

Neela and Harold perform surgery together. Harold is subdued. It's alluded to that he has been boasting about things prior to the surgery.

Gates has a young patient who is sensitive. The boy's father wants him to toughen up. Kid tries to get stitches sans anesthesia. Gates and Sam pull a fast one and have him inhale fentanyl (?) so the father thinks the kid has a high tolerance for pain.

Abby asks Neela to borrow the keys to her apartment. Abby says she left a coat in the closet and wants to get it.

Later we are shown Abby letting herself into the apartment with a brown paper bag. She pours booze into a coffee mug and sits watching tv, wearing her jacket, lost in her own little world.

Sarah is having a gigglefest/slumber party with three friends. During Gates' shift they keep calling him with silly questions. The girls clam up when Gates brings them pizza. Typical teeniebopper stuff.

Big patient storyline is about injured shop workers. Some of them apparently illegal immigrants who do not speak much, if any, English. Chuny is around to translate.

The owner is one of the injured. Guy named Murphy. May have to have an arm amputated. His son, John is a hot headed racist. There is a heated argument (the one Luka breaks up) and punches are thrown. Lots of off color remarks offered up by John.

Murphy's wife can't make a decision about consent for surgery so Anspaugh gets involved as well as Dubenko. Tempers all around. Morris is angry, Dubenko is pissed, Skye is hypercritical and hovering over everyone in the trauma.

As an aside, Dubenko and Skye seem to be buddy buddy and in agreement on things. Morris does take issue with this and mention it to Skye at some point. Pratt asks Luka about his father. Luka says his father is hanging in there has good days and bad. A bit later Abby and Luka are having an argument in the ambulance bay. Luka asks if she really wants to do this here. Notes say Abby does not want to do this at all. Luka says he'll put his brother up in a hotel starting that night.

As Luka leaves, a rig pulls up. It's the son of one of the illegal immigrants. He's been beaten into a near unrecognizable mess. A baseball bat to the head. They work on him in the trauma room but he's toast. Turns out the owner's racist son arranged the drive by beating as a means of "revenge" for his father losing his arm. All episode the son has been under the impression that it was the illegals' fault for the accident and it turns out it was the owner's own fault for being negligent. The dead man's mother who worked there under the table actually saved the owner's life.

We get a snippet of conversation with Dubenko and Anspaugh. Dubenko thinks it is a shame to lose someone like Moretti. Anspaugh hopes the son gets the help he needs. Skye interrupts. She is not happy about being made acting chief.

The new temporary attending, Skye, has been made acting chief of the ER, now that Moretti is gone—that news comes from Pratt. In the few pages we have, we see her arguing with Morris. He apparently thinks she has been second-guessing him and consulting with Dubenko prematurely. She tells him to get a life.

Gates treats an 11-year-old, Tate, who is studying karate and has been kicked in the face. He is crying and a little scared. He is accompanied by his father, Dan, who embarrasses the boy by saying Tate is the sensitive type, not like his older brother, who is a tough kid. When it comes time to suture his lip lac, Tate doesn’t want the local anesthetic—he wants to show his dad that he is tough. Gates doesn’t think he will make it through without crying. He tells the dad what Tate wants to do. The father is glad Tate wants to finally “man-up” and is angry at Gates for his interference and tells him to shut it. Gates and Sam cook up a scheme to provide anesthesia (inhaled fentanyl) without the boy and his father knowing. When they sew him up, Tate doesn’t flinch. His father is impressed.

Neela and Harold are performing laparoscopic surgery and things are going well, but Harold is described as “subdued.” Later, Harold seems to be boasting about something and Neela is suspicious. Later still, Harold is forlorn and wonders what good success is if there is no one to share it with.

Luka walks though the sliding doors just as Pratt gives orders to a character “Tiffany” who seems a little confused by equipment names. In the lounge, Luka says he is back on schedule next week, and Pratt asks if he’ll reconsider being chief given the news about Moretti. Luka says he won’t but wonders about Pratt being chief. Pratt says he is years away from that and says he is thinking it might be time to start looking around. Luka sees through him.

Later, Luka meets up with Abby. She says she heard he was in a fight, but Luka says he helped break one up. She asks if he brought Joe with him, and he says that Niko took him to the zoo. From her look, Luka asks what’s the matter, but Abby says “nothing.” Abby, Morris and Grady wait for a rig and complain that Anspaugh has made the new “temporary” attending, Skye Wexler (formerly Maxwell), acting chief of the ER now that Moretti is gone. (Moretti’s departure is related to his son, according to Anspaugh.) Abby doesn’t think they need another “outsider.” Morris thinks Skye disguised herself as a “surfer girl” but has been playing the system all along. In reality, Skye is angry with Anspaugh about appointing her without notice.

The ambulance brings in Mike Murphy, whose arm was crushed in machinery at a cannery. A short while later, Murphy’s wife Kathy and son John arrive. Murphy is bleeding badly. Skye clashes with Morris during treatment. When he confronts her about second-guessing him, she tells him to get a life.

Gates and Sam treat Dolores, a cleaning woman at the cannery where Murphy was injured. She was hurt while helping to free him. She is Spanish-speaking, and her English is very poor. Dolores’s son Manny arrives. He speaks perfect English and is a pre-law student.

It is clear that Murphy’s son John is not happy about “foreigners.” He’s heard that Dolores was responsible for his father’s injury, and throughout his father’s treatment, he mumbles ethnic slurs and angry anti-immigrant rhetoric about Dolores.

Dolores is not hurt badly. When she is being discharged, John overhears she is undocumented. He gets in Dolores’ face and spews a frightening tirade about illegal aliens, prompting her son Manny to pin him on the floor. Luka and Pratt pull Manny off.

When it becomes clear the Murphy needs surgery and perhaps amputation, John runs out angry. Later, an ambulance brings Manny back to the hospital. He has been beaten badly with a baseball bat.

When Murphy is awake, John tells his father he knows it was the cleaning lady’s fault and that “he took care of it.” He father counters that if it weren’t for Dolores, he’d be dead. As he speaks, Manny dies from his injuries in the next room.

Gates treats an 11-year-old, Tate, who is studying karate and has been kicked in the face. He is crying and scared. He is accompanied by his father, Dan, who embarrasses the boy by saying Tate is the sensitive type, not like his older brother, who is a tough kid. When it comes time to suture his lip lac, Tate doesn’t want the local anesthetic—he wants to show his dad he is tough. Gates doesn’t think he will make it through without crying. He tells the dad what Tate wants to do. The father is glad Tate wants to finally “man-up” and is angry at Gates for his interference. Gates and Sam cook up a scheme to provide anesthesia (inhaled fentanyl) without the boy and his father knowing. When they sew him up, Tate doesn’t flinch. His father is impressed.

Sarah is staying with Gates and interrupts him with calls to his cell phone. Gates laments to Sam that with Sarah’s friends over he’ll never get any sleep because they will want him to hang out with them. When he arrives home, Sarah and her friends are playing music and giggling, and fully engrossed in girl talk. Instead of an invitation, Gates gets the adolescent “can we have some privacy” brush-off. He heads upstairs but stops to admire how happy Sarah seems to be.

Neela and Harold perform laparoscopic surgery and things are going well, but Harold is described as “subdued.” The surgical patient tells Harold he recalls his own homecoming dance and says “way to go tiger.” Harold seems to be boasting about something, probably his homecoming date, and Neela is suspicious. Later, Harold is forlorn. He wonders what good success is if there is no one to share it with.

Luka arrives at the hospital just as Pratt gives orders to a character “Tiffany.” Frank gives him a giant pile of mail waiting for him. Luka says his dad is hanging in there. He tells Pratt over coffee that he is back on schedule next week. Pratt asks if he’ll reconsider being chief given the news about Moretti. Luka says he won’t but wonders about Pratt being chief. Pratt says he is years away from that and thinks it might be time to start looking around. Luka sees through him.

Later, Luka meets Abby in the hall. He tells her that Niko took Joe to the zoo. From her look, Luka asks what’s the matter, but Abby says “nothing.” Later they seem to be discussing Niko, but Luka doesn't want to continue it in the bay. A rig interrupts, and Luka says: fine--he’ll put his brother up in a hotel starting that night.

Near the end of the episode, Abby asks Neela to borrow the key to her old place to fetch something. When she gets there, she makes herself comfortable on the couch with the TV and drinks Vodka poured in mug from a bottle she brought along.
