A guy called Zakar, who's Armenian (and doesn't speak English) I think turns up at the hospital (or possibly crashes near the hospital) with a young man (Julio) and a boy (Tomas). Julio has asthma and collapsed on the way to a store, Zakar took them to the hospital in his van (which is full of flowers). Abby + Pratt meet them at the hospital. Julio will have to stay in the hospital for a while, and it turns out that he's Tomas' guardian. Later Zakar's brother turns up and is not pleased that the van is basically a write-off, however he realises his brother is a hero.

An old man called Paul comes in with his home aide person (who is there to look after him while his son goes out). His son called Jared is being worked on by Luka and Gates, he's been to the cath lab and his condition has worsened. He has high blood pressure, this has resulted in weakness in the heart. Jared gets worse, it seems like he's dying.

Betina (Pratt's radiologist girlfriend person) is back. She's been doing a fellowship in Dallas. I think Pratt might be in trouble for not missing her enough... however, Pratt asks her out and she doesn't entirely say no.

Ray is treating someone called Kenny with palpitations, Neela hears some alarms and comes over but realises she isn't needed and goes to talk to Gates. Sarah's there, she wants a HPV vaccine. Gates tells her she can't get it today, as they don't have time to talk about it. It turns out Kenny is deliberately messing with his ECG lead. Sam threatens to shock him, which soon makes him run for the door (it was a very small shock that wouldn't have hurt him).

Sam works on a guy with a dislocated patella.

A water pipe burst taking out exam 3.

Abby treats a 5 year old called Rose who has pneumonia.

Someone called Miranda turns up with Joe, Abby immediately goes over and takes the baby.

Ray and Neela have a conversation at one point, he sort of asks her to a gig, she thinks she's on call, and he asks her if they are still 'waiting'.

I don't think Luka is involved with the Armenian guy and his brother, or the people the guy tries to help... however the whole arguing brothers thing is kind of interesting. Luka is affected by the case he's involved in with Jared and his dad, and his father does get a mention. Now we all have to perform rituals to ensure that Abby is being paranoid and baby Joe really does just have a little sniffle/slight fever and not some evil life-threatening illness. She's described as 'sneaking' Joe in when he's brought to the hospital and asks Pratt to help her. I think it's something like Luka thinks she's worrying too much about Joe but she wants to be completely sure.

-Seems sarah is living with Gates.

-Neela and Ray are making plans for an evening.

-Kovac is working with an old man that is losing his son. He starts to think about his own father. He asks Sam about the last time she saw her father. I think maybe we will see papa Kovac soon!

-It seems that Abby is hiding the fact that she does a urine dip on a john doe from Luka. We dont know who he is and why she is hiding it. She tosses the sample in the trash and fishes it out when Luka is out of sight.

-Joes nanny bring him into the ER. (non emergent) Seems he has a fever.

-Gracie and Timmy are back from their eight week cruise!

-There are other big stories, but I read too quickly and dont really get whats going on. I'll read again later when I have time.

-Sam does have a story line but I just dont care about her.

Actually Sam has quite a lot to do in the episode darlings. She spends a lot of time with the police officer giving a seminar for the nurses on how to deal with abusive patients, especially when he gets to the part about how to hit back when you're being assaulted and Samhits him so hard she dislocates his knee.

And then she takes him out to the roach coach for a coffee afterwards and a runaway truck hits his wheelchair in the ambulance bay. He really didn't read up on County before he took the teaching job, did he?

Young Sarah shows up at the hospital and tells Neela she wants the HPV vaccination that's all over the news these days. Neela of course refuses to go any further and leaves it up to daddy Gates to tell her now way right now.

Well, since you ask so sweetly. The Armenian gentleman who crashed the truck in the ambulance bay takes Neela's hand when she says he's okay to go home and asks her out to dinner, though it's a nurse who does the asking since he can't speak English. As she's leaving, he tells her in Armenian how honest and hardworking he is and says she needs a good man just as she steps up to Ray. Anvilicious goodness, darlings.

He asks he out to go see his old band play, but she turns him down because they're "still waiting" and it's "only been a week". Soooo mysterious.

A man named Zakar crashes the florist truck he was driving as he arrives at the hospital. In the back of the vehicle are a young man and a little boy who must be unconscious. Zakar is okay but doesn’t speak any English. In order to communicate with him, Abby requests a Farsi translator. But Zakar can’t understand a word he says, and the translator informs Abby that Zakar does not speak Farsi, but he thinks it is Armenian.

Because Zakar cannot speak English and the two other victims are not conscious, at first they do not know his relationship to them. But when the 9-year-old Tomas wakes up, he tells Abby that his 25-year-old brother Julio has asthma. They were on the way to the drug store and suddenly Julio could not walk or talk. Zakar came by with his truck and drove them to the hospital, Tomas explained.

Julio is very sick and Gates and Pratt have a hard time intubating. Abby tells Tomas that Julio will have to stay in the hospital. Tomas wants to stay with him and has nowhere else to go, as Julio has been taking care of him since the mother died and they have no other family. Abby says he can hang out at the hospital for a while.

Zakar is thankful the boy is okay and wants to get in touch with his own brother Pasha. When Pasha arrives, they argue and Abby has to tell them to knock it off. Pasha is mad that Zakar totaled his van. He says without it, the business is screwed. But Pratt tells him Zakar saved someone’s life. Pasha is moved by his brother’s heroism, and they hug.

An old man, accompanied by a home aide, waits for his son who has had a heart attack. Luka treats the son, who seems to have taken on the family business. The son cares for the father, and when he leaves the house to quote on a job, he hires an aide. The son is dying and the father, frail himself, stays by his side. When the aide has to leave, Luka says he’ll look after the father. It seems the son passes away, but the father does not understand and tries to call his son at home. It is sad, and Luka takes him back to his room.

Sam helps treat a man with a dislocated kneecap that she pops in by herself without any anesthesia. Beforehand he complains that she “hasn’t done crap” for him and she realizes he is using some “role-playing” dialogue that we will apparently hear in the Teaser (though we do not know now what this refers to). She arranges for 5 days off work for him, and he says (jokingly I believe) that he has a self-defense seminar the next day and asks if she wants to fill in.

Gates’ dad Mike is there. He wants Mike to cook dinner and gives him money to buy the food. Mike is reluctant, but Gates reminds him that he used to like to cook at the firehouse, and Mike agrees to take the money and cook.

A water pipe burst in Exam 3 just where Abby was going to see a new patient. Ceiling tiles have fallen down and the floor is covered with water. A nurse tells her the patients are in the hall. That’s where she finds 5-year-old Rose, who who tells Abby she is “under the weather.” Her mother says she has had a cough and fever for a week. Abby thinks it is just a cold, but when she examines her, she sees it is pneumonia needs to be admitted. The mother said she knew it had to be something more.

Pratt is visited by Betina, a woman who appears in an earlier episode, and he makes some excuses for not calling or emailing. She consults on a patient and enlightens him about an eye disorder, and then Pratt asks her to dinner sometime. She is business-like, but says maybe.

Ray treats a man with heart palpitations. He crashes in the ER three times until Sam spots him playing with his EKG leads and realizes he is faking it. To teach him a lesson, Sam grabs the paddles and zaps him. He runs out yelling at her. Ray walks in on it and is horrified, but Sam says she only charged the paddles to 10 joules and demonstrates on Ray, who says it is not so bad.

Neela offer Ray some help with his patient and moves over to talk to Gates, which Ray notices. Neela tells Gates that Sarah is there and wants the HPV vaccine. Gates worries that she is having sex with boys, but Neela says she didn’t get that far with her. Gates turns Sarah down, and she says it is not fair.

Someone named Miranda shows up at the hospital with baby Joe and Abby heads right for them. We hear Abby ask Joe if he is okay and say that she missed him. That is all we have of that scene.

We now have the teaser wherein some of the ER staff are having training on how to handle aggressive patients. Sam doesn’t really want to get physical with the trainer, but in the end she reveals that she’s had self-defense training when she moves the trainer to the ground and dislocates his kneecap.

Sam somehow takes on a bet that she can get him out of the ER within an hour and somehow does it. She takes him to the Roach Coach to get a donut that he promised if she did it. Unfortunately, before they get there, a truck comes barreling into the ambulance bay and crashes – it is a flower truck driven by Zakar and the brothers in the back. But in the meantime, we learn she learned to protect herself from the guys who wanted a quickie behind the Dairy Queen.

The trainer’s kneecap is dislocated again in the accident, and Sam gets him back in the ER but must leave him to help tend to others. But later, she pops the guy’s kneecap back and he feints from the pain. Sam finally gets the guy out of the ER on crutches, but he must fall as we hear his cry. Sam gets a wheelchair for the guy.

Sarah, it seems, is back living with Tony. She’s paying his bills which are three months behind. As reported above, Sarah shows up at the ER wanting the HPV vaccine. Later at home, Sarah has made spaghetti for dinner and there is some left in the pot for Gates.

Pratt’s half-brother, Chaz, wants to get into EMT training. Gates promises to help Chaz get in as it is a competitive selection process.

There is some sort of disagreement about a urine sample. Luka is pleased that Abby agrees with him about the sample and she throws it away. But after Luka is gone, Abby retrieves the sample and asks Timmy to get it tested for a “micro” for a patient named “John Doe.” Later, it comes back negative – no leuks, no nitrates.

Timmy and Gracie have returned from their cruise, 2 months after they left. They had an adventure in Singapore.

Luka and Sam get the father of Luka’s heart-attack victim into a van that will take him to a nursing home. Luka confesses to Sam that it has been a long time since he went home to see his father. Sam says she hasn’t seen her father since she was three.

Abby does indeed greet the babysitter with baby Joe. His temperature is down but he still does not want a bottle. Abby lets the babysitter go and asks Pratt to help her sneak Joe into the ER without registering him.

Neela thinks she might be on call on a night that Ray suggests they go see his old band perform. They’ve been waiting for something for a week.
