Oh no darlings, we have a man who crashed his truck and hurt a himself, his wife and another family and now he feels so very bad about it and Sam feels bad for him. This is ER, I think we'll all be feeling bad before the episode is over, don't you?

Poor Sam, she also feels bad about sending Alex away to a boarding school for troubled teenagers, now that he won't answer her e.mails or call her.

Abby just feels bad that Morris ordered her out of a trauma because there were too many doctors there and not enough looking after the other patients in the ER. Luka's in a meeting, so looks like you don't get to do what you want this time, Abby.

Prepare for more messy walls, darlings. Luka and Abby are still planning their wedding and Morris - yes Morris - has offered his advice to go somewhere exotic. Abby likes it and says maybe a beach or the mountains or - brace yourselves - Croatia. Yes, Abby suggests they go get married in Croatia.

Well, Neela and Ray are a leeetle awkward when they both show up in the break room to get coffee. Especially when he says "Honey?". Good thing she had the bear jar of honey he wanted for his tea in her hand at the time and didn't misunderstand at all what he was saying. Well, once she figured it out that is, snicker.

There's a new med student, nerdy but nice Larry. He graduated law school and decided corporate law wasn't exciting enough for him and turned around and went to med school instead. Gates is a dawg, I tell you, making Larry write up all his charts for the day because his blue tooth isn't working and he can't dictate notes as usual. He even lets Larry do a procedure a med student shouldn't do quite yet and I can't think that's a good thing.

Dubenko's new prize student freezes up in a trauma while he's trying to talk her through a procedure. Neela sees the whole thing from the next room. Unfortunately dears, so does the patient's husband who's the truck driver who jack-knifed and they have to watch her die. :sniff: I warned you we'd all be sad because of this storyline.

The trucker crashed because he couldn't read the sign for his exit. Because he can't read. At all. His wife always rode with him and read all the maps and told him when to make his turns, but she was tired and fell asleep and he didn't wake her up and made a wrong turn. Don't worry Dr. Gates, I'm sure there's no anvil or anything here at all.

Luka is surprised Abby would want to go away to get married because none of their coworkers could be there, she just looks at Morris and Hope playing a drinking game.... I think maybe no coworkers is the real appeal for Abby.

Or maybe it's just because she has some sort of nasty squabble going on with Hope. The little birds aren't saying over what, but Abby deliberately bumps into her to make her drop a binder and then gives her dirty looks, and Hope just ignores her and offers to help Sam out with a problem, as if that's going to bug Abby. Could it get any more middle school, darlings?

There's a photographer at the hospital, it looks like she's working, not a patient. She and Sam spend time bonding and talking about realizing what's important and what isn't. The photographer learned this when she had cancer and she's leaves Sam with a gift to help her learn to enjoy her own life more.

It’s Sam’s birthday and she has not heard much from Alex – word comes from a phone call with Gracie. A cancer patient gives Sam a camera and lesson in enjoying the moment. But in the meantime, she treats several patients who have sad stories. Meanwhile, the phones in the ER are intermittent making communication difficult.

Larry is a new med student – Pratt assigns him to shadow Gates for the day. Gates uses Larry to complete his charts, and Larry notices spelling errors. Turns out Larry got a law degree and found that career was not good for him. So he turned to medicine.

Billy, a trucker driver, is injured in a crash on the freeway. He is worried about his wife who it seems was trapped inside the truck.

Luka and Abby treat an eight year old injured in the car-versus-semi crash. The child’s father is not injured and he stands by during the treatment, and when he recognizes Billy, he starts yelling at the man. Turns out the crash killed the man’s wife and daughter as well.

Billy takes this hard – his wife is coming to the ER via helicopter, a boy is injured, people are dead. Morris handles Mary, Billy’s wife, and when it gets too crowded in the trauma room, he clears it by ordering Abby to clear charts.

Meanwhile, Neela is supervising Mae Lee, the star med student Dubenko is doting on. Somehow, Mae Lee is doing an assist to Dubenko on Billy’s wife, and while Neela slips away, Mae Lee fails in her task.

Billy is distraught as his wife dies. He tells the staff that it was his wife who was the brains behind their trucking work, and it comes out that Billy was a football star who got passed along through school, and he can’t read. And so that inability caused the accident.

Abby treats Wright, that helicopter nurse who it turns out, worked at Ground Zero, for medical issues that he attributes to working there with the bad air. There is something Wright is not telling his wife.

Abby and Sam treat two young girls, one of whom feinted while waiting for a tanning bed. The girls are preparing for spring break week, and note in a snide way that they are young enough to still care how they look. Abby and Sam double take on that one.

Morris seems to be planning a bachelor party for Luka, suggesting a brothel, and when Abby asks what is legal, he changes the subject to cockfighting in Oklahoma where Morris thinks it is still legal.

(Added by edit) In a parallel of sorts, Hope is up to something that Abby catches her at. Hope deflects, saying she hopes to help Sam with "that" when it her "time comes."

Ray and Neela seem to be hesitant to be too friendly at work, and there are some heavy glances at each other.

Towards the end, there is a birthday party at Ikes. Abby ponders that they should get married someplace exotic – like the mountains or the beach or Croatia. Luka says that there would be no one from work there. Meanwhile Morris tries to down a shooter as Hope looks on. Back in the ER, Sam dances with Larry as Morris takes a picture using her new camera – and she is not sweating the small stuff.

At the start Sam is on the phone to Gracie. Sam says Alex is probably being kept busy at school.

The ER phones are all messed up.

A new medical student called Larry (slightly nerdy) arrives unexpectedl.y Pratt gets him to shadow Gates, though Gates is not too pleased as he works better alone. Gates lets Larry do a procedure, which he shouldn`t really have done as Gates should be supervised as an intern. Gates tells Larry to keep this a secret. Larry notices spelling errors in Gates` charts, Gates brushes this off. Larry was originally a law student, we find out, but changed to medicine.

` It`s Sam`s birthday. There is a card being passed round.

Awkward moments ensue when Ray walks into the break room to find Neela there alone... they`re talking to each other but it is as if they are embarrassed or something.

Photographer called Diana around. Sam is a little envious of her life. However Diana has cancer, which is why she changed careers. Diana gives Sam a camera as a present. There seems to be a party at the end for her. A dancefloor is mentioned.

Jack-knifed lorry trauma, with a guy called Billy asking for his wife who was also in the truck. He might have some head trauma. He seems to be the patient of the week. Sam, Ray, Larry, Gates and Morris work on him. When Neela comes down for a consult, she and Ray 'lock eyes' for a moment. He has some old knee injuries (some very typical ones too). Billy's a bit confused about signing the consent form. He used to be a bit of a sports star, but injured his knee and couldn't play anymore. The wife is being brought in by helicopter. When she does arrive she's in a bad way. Billy says she's too important for him to lose. Mae Lee, supervised by Neela, works on her (Mary). Later on it seems Mary needs shocking. Neela's watching unnoticed as Dubenko supervises Mae Lee, who gets frightened while doing a procedure. More looking between Ray and Neela. She dies, with Billy watching. Later Ray and Neela comfort Billy. He says that it was just the two of them. Neela comments that it must have been great to spend that much time with someone you love. More glances between Ray and Neela. It turns out Billy can't read, hence his confusion. Because he was an athlete, he graduated from high school.

Luka, Pratt, Abby and Marquez work on a kid called Dennis who comes in with his father, intubated but not on a board and has no collar. He's hypotensive, and was also involved in the accident. The dad gets a bit angry/aggressive and Luka tells him he'll have to go if he doesn't cool it.

Abby bumps into Hope on purpose and scowls at her.

Sam thinks she's made a mistake sending Alex away. Morris tries to tease her about the boarding school thing but she's not in the mood. Alex hasn't been returning her e-mails.

Morris makes some quip about brothels being legal to Luka - this seems to be the tail-end of a conversation about Luka`s bachelor party, and Luka has walked off by this point. Abby asks Morris what`s legal. Morris covers and makes a quick exit.

Abby and Sam treat a couple of very tanned teens. One fainted because she hadn`t eaten enough while at the sunbed shop. Abby warns them about the risk of skin cancer and Sam chips in that their skin will be all leathery in the future. The girls make a comment about how they are youthful enough to still care about their appearance.

That air ambulance guy called Wright appears to have shown up again. Abby gives him some meds including an inhaler. It seems whatever is going on with him medically might have been caused by his work rescuing people.

It seems there is a party at Ike's. Various presents and the card are there. Abby and Luka are at the bar. She says Morris suggested they go somewhere exotic, and then, yes, she does suggest Croatia (as described by UKPG below). Luka comments that their colleagues wouldn't be there. Cue shot of Morris and Hope being silly.

I'm not sure this is 'it' so there might be some more on Monday again.
