He says something to Abby like, "sorry, it just slipped out", so they obviously have been discussing it.

Abby and Ray treat the chearleaders. Ray asks Abby if everything is back to normal with her and Kovac, re the Ames situation. Abby says they are fine. Not completely back to normal. She asks how Katey is. He is hesitant and then says fine.

An officer that knows sam from the hospital brings Alex in (instead of taking him to the police station) for stealing quarters from a laundromat. Abby treats the psychic.

Abby treats a couple that got married in a wican wedding. Their hands were binded together and as a result of that they have lost some function in their hands, thumbs etc. Abby calls Luka in to check out the odd situation. The couple tells them that they are not recognized by the state because their marriage in only going to last for one year and then they will evaluate whether they want to still be together after that time period is over. Abby asks if that just means that they will not try their hardest to make it work for the long haul because they know there is an easy way out at some point. They think thats bogus. Luka butts in and says that they are getting married, so they are thinking about that stuff. Abby gives him a look and then he apologizes that it just slipped out. Looks like the scene is supposed to be played for shits and giggles.

There is no side for Tommy, which probably means that he has already been cast, or that TPTB are looking for a name actor. After he gives Abby a blah reading, she's unimpressed. He then asks her to move closer and he whispers something into her ear . . . of course we dont know what he says.

Edit: Seems Ben is gone. He moved to minneapolis to take a nursing job there. They offered him a car for a six month commitment. I guess that relationship is over . . .

Luka, Sam and Gates are treating a woman who seems to be in liver failure -initially she was severely dehydrated but conscious. Now she's in a pretty bad way - Sam's doing CPR. They're about to have one last go with the defib, as her sons are watching, but she then has a pulse. However, she's been down for so long she probably has severe brain damage. One of her sons still seems very bitter. Later on Gates sees the brothers arguing. He says they should be spending this time with their mom instead. Apparently she had a gambling problem, hence the son's bitterness, and the brothers will lose their home because of the debt. Later the mother deteriorates again, Luka and Sam try to save her but have to stop. It turns out the mother committed suicide, one of the boys tells Gates.

Pratt and Jane treat a stabbing victim called Scorpion. Neela and Crenshaw come down for a consult, though Neela says she's been banned from the ER all day by Crenshaw. Apparently these stab wounds are self-inflicted - the guy wants to get rid of the 'devil's etchings'.

Remember Neela's transplant stuff? A guy Manish (not sure if we've seen him before - think he might have been in CoM) is donating a kidney to a girl called Emily, but it seems she might have paid him for it.

A police officer turns up at the ER with Alex. He didn`t take Alex to the station because he said his mom worked in the ER. The officer is grateful for all the work the staff do. Sam is understandably not happy and says she will call Alex every half hour to make sure he is at home. He seems to have tried to steal quarters from a laundromat. Later on Sam's trying to get through to Alex and make him see the path he's set himself on. During the episode Sam treats a boy called James who is 8. He has broken his school science project as well as his tibia + fibula (he names the bones). He reminds her of Alex when he was younger and happier.

Abby's treating Fred and Brenda, whose hands have gone a bit numb having been bound together in a handfasting ceremony (anybody watch Charmed?) - a Wiccan wedding. She calls Luka over to see them. Abby asks if such a thing is even recognised by the state, which it isn't. Apparently though, the couple don't believe in the whole together-until-death part, though Abby questions whether that will mean they won't try as hard to make it work. Fred thinks that kind of stuff (ie Judaeo-Christian weddings is rubbish). Abby disagrees. So does Luka. When the other couple are puzzled by this, Luka explains that they're getting married (and apologises to Abby for letting that 'slip out').

She also treats a guy with temporal lobe epilepsy called Tommy, who tells her she will struggle to balance her work and home life. She is unimpressed by this, unsurprisingly.

Ray and Abby are in the ambulance bay early on. Ray asks if things are back to usual with her and Luka - she says things are good (if perhaps not quite normal). She then asks about Katey - he says things are great but Abby can tell he's not quite sure about that. Then a bus full of cheerleaders pulls up. One of them, Tasha, is in pain - the others try to get her to walk but Abby intervenes and calls for a gurney. Apparently she fell from the top of a 'layer cake' (I have no idea what that is - perhaps a pyramid). Ray is the cheerleaders' 'type'. Tasha's going to need surgery, though some of the girls seem more concerned about a competition they have next week. Ray reminds them where their priorities should be. Crenshaw comes down with Neela (who has to write everything down for him, Abby wonders how she can stand this), he says it might be a ruptured spleen. On the way to surgery, Tasha confesses that she might not have fallen in a formation, but that the other girls were responsible for her injuries.

Nothing more to add except that Gates might be afraid of folk singers. (Neela doesn't like clowns, Abby doesn't like cheerleaders). Also, at one point Gates tries to talk to Neela, but she's busy.

I'm not sure I have everything included here as this is going to be a jammed episode. But in this one, everything that seems apparent in the beginning is not going to be true at the end.

In the main story, Gates and Sam treat Anna who has an 18 year old son, Evan, plus an older one, Nick. She has committed suicide by drinking a toxin that destroys her liver but leaves no evidence. She appears to have been depressed for quite a while but did the deed now that her sons are old enough to take care of themselves.

But the full story comes out when Nick son arrives; Anna has been depressed since their father died. She gambled online and lost everything – the insurance, the house, and now the two sons owe $80,000 on credit cards she took out in their name. Nick, the oldest, is unforgiving, while Evan, the younger, still doesn’t want his mother to die. Gates cannot understand Nick’s coldness towards his mother.

This twist is not enough: it turns out that Nick helped “facilitate” the suicide by leaving out the toxin – one that both he and his mother have access to at work. And the accidental death will leave the sons her insurance money.

Manish, the staff member who came aboard to run the match pair organ donation program became so involved that he donated one of his own kidneys to a patient named Emily. Neela is surprised but later appalled when the truth comes out: he took money from Emily for the kidney. Neela feels compelled to tell Dubenko.

Ray and Abby treat a cheerleader who says she was injured when she feel from the top of a major cheer formation and injured her spleen. It was one of those formations that is five layers tall and Tasha, it seems, fell from the top – just as regional competitions near in a few weeks. But as Tasha heads in to surgery, she tells Neela that she did not fall – that the other girls did this to her.

In this backdrop, some of the personal stories are unfolding, and might reveal even further crisis of conscience in each of the characters.

Although discussed above, Neela treats two patients who reveal secrets – Manish who takes money for his kidney, and Tasha who was beat up by the other cheerleaders. She also treats a man who tried to carve out his tattoos, because according to Jane, he’s found Jesus.

While treating Anna, Sam learns that Alex stole quarters from a Laundromat and sends him home with instructions to answer the phone every half hour. After watching the two sons and their mother, at home, Sam tries to get Alex to talk to her but he will not. She is quite distressed.

Meanwhile, Neela and Gates are too busy to talk to each other.

Ray, in answer to Abby’s question, seems to not convince her that his relationship with Katie going well. In response Abby answers Ray’s reciprocal question by saying that things are not back to normal but things are good between her and Luka.

And while treating Wiccan couple who have jut gotten “married” for a year and a day – and then will reevaluate their relationship, Luka lets slip that he and Abby are getting married and are thinking about these issues. Abby does think that “till death” is an “extreme concept” but that not committing for a longer period means one might not try as hard to make the relationship work. The couple thinks that is a belief instilled by religion and Abby disagrees. Luka apologizes to Abby for letting the matter “slip” of their marriage and they go into the hallway to talk.

Some time after whatever talk Luka and Abby have in the hallway, a patient “psychic” tells Abby that this coming year will bring her success but she will have trouble balancing work and her home life. And then he whispers something more to her.

The patient with the seizures predicts that Abby will have a great year in 2007, but will struggle to balance home and career. Her response is that it's the most generic prediction she's ever heard. He then whispers something to her.

According to the cop Alex stole a few bags of quarters at a laundromat near his school and was caught. He found out Alex was Sam's kid (Officer Greenway knows Sam from coming into the hospital) and got things squared away with the owner. Alex says it wasn't his fault. Greenway is going to take Alex home and Sam's going to call every half hour. If he doesn't answer he's is trouble.

The cheerleader that's a patient needs surgery. She fell from the top of some kind of pyramid or some such. She was at the top of a "5-layer cake." Just before going into surgery, she's crying and scared. She says that she didn't fall, that the mean girl cheerleaders did this to her.

The woman is brought in by her youngest son. Turns out that she ingested some type of cleaning fluid and by the time the symptoms hit the poison has disappeared from her system. Gates figures it out and tries to get her to tell him what she took. Her oldest son arrives and we find out that he doesn't care if she dies. The mom got addicted to online gamling and lost all their savings, including what their dad left when he died. She then got credit cards by using the boys info. She and Nick (oldest son) work at the same place. When the mom croaks, Nick tells Gates that he helped mom to OD. He left out a bottle of the stuff for her to drink. Gates can't believe what he's hearing. Very sad situation.

Ben has accepted a job at a hospital in Minneapolis. They offer incentives to the nurses for signing on for at least six months. He got a new car out of the deal.

A Wiccan couple comes in for some complications of a wedding ritual they were in. Abby is in on this one. They say that their marriage will only last one day and one hour. They don't believe in the till death do us part. Abby says that she does. Luka tells the couple that "we're getting married and we think about these things" to which apparently he has once again done the wrong thing. Abby drags him from the room immediately.
