Gates and Ray are arguing, at one point over whether a surgical consult is needed for a patient (ETA - Ray thinks no but Gates calls anyway and Neela agrees with Gates). Ray is arguing with patient relatives, particularly one kid's stepfather who berates his stepson even though he helped the son.

There's some friction between Abby and Luka about something, but I don't know what. She's trying to do an intubation and is struggling but doesn't want him to help, he isn't being entirely friendly either. At one point Timmy says that a patient Abby was asking about called + this is a 'sore point'.

Sarah still doesn't like Neela, but Gates says that she will be fine once she realises Neela doesn't threaten Gates + Sarah's relationship.

Pratt's in trouble... someone came in with medication from the clinic he helps with, and Abby thought they'd got the medication from someone unlicensed and called the cops... Pratt's arrested for violation of the Controlled Substances Act and has to be handcuffed. ETA - Luka asks Abby why she didn't run calling the cops by him - ah, see, there are consequences to this workplace bickering, kids.

That's all for now... no mention of hostages but I don't have that much at the moment.

Sam says she thinks Ben’s great, but tells him she’s had some bad experiences regarding workplace romance.

Dennis and Clarke are two stepbrothers who have had a snowmobile accident. Clarke’s father is very angry with Dennis, whom he says deliberately wanted to hurt Clarke. But Clarke was actually the one driving – though Dennis didn’t tell his stepdad this. Ray wonders why.

Ray and Gates are arguing about the treatment of Dennis, and Neela gets involved coming down on Gates’ side that the patient needs to be admitted for observation.

Timmy is in this episode.

Abby called the medical board about the drugs situation - so Pratt really is in huge trouble.

Ray has a go at dad telling him that Dennis probably saved Clarke's life by carrying him a mile to the road. He also tells him he needs to stop treating Dennis like crap. Luka overhears as he passes by, and tells Ray to back off.

He asks Ray what’s up, why is he fighting with Gates, with the parents of patients. Ray explains about the kids and the dad.

[My remarks, not a spoiler – it’s so ironic because regular attending Luka would have done EXACTLY the same thing (heck, he’d have punched dad by now!), but he tells Ray to focus just on the medicine.]

The cops interview Pratt. He says he has a medical license and he can write prescriptions – cop replies that diverting controlled substances to the church is a felony. Angela tries to intervene, saying she wants a lawyer present, but cop tells her this has nothing to do with the hospital.

Cop pushes Pratt up against the wall. Next he’s being frogmarched out of the hospital in handcuffs for being aggressive.

A House Divided finds everyone fighting and/or in trouble – at least through the first three acts. We have nothing of the 4th act.

Gates and Ray fight over treating a patient, Clark – a younger brother injured in a snowmobiling accident with his older half-brother, Dennis. Luka and Abby take Clark, leaving the two of them with Dennis.

Gates and Ray continue to argue over the diagnosis for Dennis – Gates wants a surgical consult and Ray does not. Neela concludes that Dennis needs observation. Later, Dennis' condition declines and he needs surgery. In the mean time, Dennis’ stepfather arrives and blames Dennis without knowing it was the younger driving the snowmobile. Ray tells the father to, in effect, pay more attention to his step-son. Luka has to call Ray away and reprimand him. Ray’s defense is that the situation reminds him of someone he used to know.

Ray is trying to be more assertive about his romantic intentions with Neela but sees clearly that she is more interested in Gates, and that he has lost his latest chance to make an impression.

Gates tells Neela that Sarah will come to understand his situation, and will not feel that her (Sarah’s) relationship with Gates is not threatened by Neela. Neela doesn’t quite believe it. Also Sam inquires of Gates how Sarah is doing. He responds saying he’s working on the relationship and Sam notes Sarah is a sweet kid.

Sam has a talk with Ben and tells him that she’s had troubles before with work-romances, but when he accepts her explanation without question, she begins to doubt her reasoning. Meanwhile, Ben successfully deals with a frequent flyer patient where none of the other nurses had been able to do so.

Pratt is in trouble over the death of one of the patients from the church clinic for allegedly providing controlled drugs without a license. It seems that Abby discovered the situation without knowing it was Pratt who was involved, and she called the medical board. As a result, the police have come to talk to him, and end up arresting Pratt.

Luka and Abby seem to be arguing from the start. They treat the more seriously inured brother, Clark (see above). While treating an incoming father of a young hockey player, Abby asks Pratt if he wants to help and not Luka – and it is noticed. Later Luka says Abby should have consulted him before calling the medical board over the patient Pratt had been treating, and she is defensive. And finally, Abby has been inquiring about a patient who has called back, and Timmy's announcement of that fact seems to upset Luka.

Title of 13.13 is 'A House Divided'. They aren't joking about that one - Ray + Gates argue over whether a patient needs a surgical consult, Ray says no, Gates calls anyway, and Neela agrees with Gates. Later Ray is arguing with a patient's stepfather who is being harsh on his stepson even though he helped his stepbrother. Friction between Luka + Abby about something, enough for it to spill over into the trauma room. Some patient she was apparently asking about is a 'sore point'. Pratt gets arrested for helping with the medicine exchange program at the church he was helping at - Abby treats one of the patients who got medication from there and calls the cops, not realising Pratt is involved. Luka asks Abby why she didn't run it by him. Ben kissed Sam but Sam doesn't want a workplace romance. He says he's fine with this.

Abby reports the church clinic Pratt has been helping out with, and the result is that he gets arrested. She also reports him to the medical board, upsetting Luka who says she should have talked to him first as he is their (Abby and Pratt's) boss. Pratt is charged with a felony for dispensing narcotics. There appears to be tension between Abby and Luka this ep, including arguing over a patient's intubation. Sam and Ben witness this, and she tells him that that's why she has a rule against relationships with coworkers, and that she's had some bad experiences. Ray and Gates are also in the ep, arguing over a patient. (There seems to be a rivalry there because of the whole Neela thing)

AN ARGUMENT OVER A PATIENT LEAVES A COUPLE IN DISTRESS- FOREST WHITAKER, PAULA MALCOMSON, AND FRED WARD GUEST STAR-- Kovac (Goran Visnjic) gets jealous when Abby (Maura Tierney) gives too much attention to a patient. Meg (guest star Paula Malcomson) pulls a deadly stunt when Gates (John Stamos) moves out of her place. As a result of one of his patients dying, Pratt (Mekhi Phifer) finds that police are anxious to arrest him. Meanwhile, Dr. Weaver (Laura Innes) makes a decision that will change the ER forever. Parminder Nagra, Linda Cardellini and Shane West also star.
