Director: Stephen Cragg
work dates: 1/27-2/07
(The episode number is definite.)

A man claims (falsely) to have overdosed on Tylenol so he can avoid attending the wedding of his friends -- he's in love with the bride.

A Turkish American family deals with the stabbing of their daughter in her college dorm.

Morris was once an anonymous sperm donor, and now four of his biological children (ages 9-14, all with the same mother) come into the ER looking for him.

The Turkish family's story is just awful and sad, darlings.

Neela is giving a presentation at a medical conference and her laptop isn't behaving. Dr. Dubenko is there and he's embarassed for her.

Morris's brood show up and they're just precious. They all have different parents, one of them even has a black mother and one is a computer genius who hacked into the sperm bank's database so they could all find each other and their Dad, now they come looking for him.

It's Dr. Clemente's first day back after the Jodie fiasco and he's not in a good mood, though Luka is trying to be nice about everything.

Morris did all his donating while he was in college 1991-96 and he's thrilled to tears about his little visitors, it's almost sweet.

Luka and Abby are disagreeing about something he calls 'a little water and a little prayer and a chance to make a lot of people happy but she thinks sounds too Rosemary's Baby. He's frustrated with her. She's frustrated because of other people watching how much coffee she drinks. Not a good day in Lubyland, I'd say.

Abby is annoyed that people are being nice to her now that she's showing and they know about the Lubylet and she's something of a bee-eye-tee-see-aych about it, if you know what I mean. Shocking I know darlings, since Abby such a little ray of sunshine the rest of the time.

Dr. Dubenko's fans are going to be happy with this episode, I think. He's at the conference teaching Neela the tricks of making a good presentation and cheering her on.

Luka tells Abby he, his brothers and sisters were all baptised and it would mean a lot to his father, because that's what Croatians do, but Abby doesn't care about that, she thinks it's admission to a club she doesn't belong to. Oh my, there are Luka-brothers out there somewhere? I'm feeling just a bit faint at the thought of that family reunion.

Sam is getting phone calls she doesn't want, one is even accidentally put through to the trauma room. Luka asks her if she has a problem and she tells him it's nothing that wouldn't be solved by a long-lost rich, dying uncle. Isn't it too bad darlings that no one even the least bit like that has passed through the ER offering her a job recently?

Poor, poor Neela, her speech doesn't go well at all. Frist she has problems with the laptop, then animal rights activicts attack her with paint bombs because they want to free lab rats. She ends it all by fainting. Maybe she heard about those Luka-brothers but I think it's probably the little beta-blocker pill Dr. Dubenko helpfully gave her to calm her nerves. At least things are going well for her in her surgical elective, since he's trying to talk her into switching her specialty to surgery.

It is Clementes first day back at work and hes nervous about everyones reactions. Luka has been busy with administrative issues and Clemente feels slighted on his first day back. Clemente does have to do a drug test in front of the staff person, and is sensitive to how everyone sees him now.

Nimet is a young Turkish girl who convinced her father to get an apartment for her third year of college. Her parents, who emigrated from Turkey because of the lure of American freedoms, argued about it, but the father decided to let her go. She is found stabbed in the neck by her boyfriend. Unfortunately, Niments brother suspects the boyfriend in the stabbing.

Luka and Clemente agree on an aggressive measure to try and save Nimets life, but even that does not work. Luka talks with Nimets father as he grieves, Luka offering support about how hard it is for a parent to lose a child. The father finally offers up, over his wifes objections, that his son was upset over Nimets lifestyle choice, and took action. We end the scene on Lukas concerned reaction that Nimets death was the result of an honor killing.

Luka presses Abby to have the baby baptized as he and all his family (brothers and sisters, mother and father) were, and that it would be meaningful to him. But she objects saying shes not into the religion of it all. The guy at the Roach Coach objects to her ordering regular coffee (not caffeine-free) and she objects to that as well. Clemente suggest that she be careful around too many xrays and she does not appreciate her concern. But later, she and Clemente talk about their respective reactions to being seen differently by everyone.

Sam receives a phone call from someone, perhaps a bill collector. Shes annoyed that personal calls are being transferred to the trauma room. Luka asks about the call but she doesnt tell him much, saying a rich uncle could help.

Neela is presenting a paper at a conference; her laptop Powerpoint presentation freezes and she gets a hostile question from the audience. Even more, there are protesters there, objecting to animal research. Dubenko is there, encouraging her, and hints that hes like her to switch to surgery. She says she is too busy with everything, including Gallant in Iraq.

Ray treats a man who comes in claiming to have taken an overdose of Tylenol but he has not. He only wants to be placed on a psychiatric hold so he wont go to his best friends wedding and he worries, object when the time comes. Ray also deals with a patient from #16, a man who wears too much gold jewelry (i.e. as he gains weight it cuts into his skin) and Ray tells him to stop wearing it.

Morris learns that four kids got together and found out their fathers name, a father from donated sperm. They all have red hair like he does, but all four have different mothers. They tour the place with him, and as he warms to the idea of being a father, the kids do not seem to warm to him, and eventually say they have to leave and dont know when theyll be back.

In the baptism discussion scene, Luka tells Abby that it is what is done in Croatia and that "It would mean a lot to my father", which leads me to believe this may be preparing the ground for a trip to Croatia after the baby is born (season 13 premiere, anyone?) Abby sure is cranky with everyone, but when Sam offers to take over compressions on Nimet, the stabbed girl, Abby "loses it" (as she later tells Clemente) and fumes that she's "pregnant, get over it", to everyone in the room. There is also the beginning of a scene with Sam and Abby alone together, though we don't get any of the dialogue for it.

Just some brief teasers while JD is summarizing the actual goodies for you:

Clemente is back, he has to doa drug test first and he's not happy about it.

Abby is now showing, people are watching her coffee intake and not letting her lift things, volunteering to do things for her. She's annoyed.

Morris calls the baby "Our baby" repeatedly and says it's the ER's Mascot. Abby again, annoyed.

Luka reveals that his brothers and sisters (yes many siblings) were all baptised and wants the same for their baby, says it will make his father happy. Abby has reservations because she's not a practising Catholic.

Morris was a sperm donor in college. The kids ages 9-14 track him down via rather farfetched means, and want to meet him for curiosity's sake. He's thrilled and proud like a cock in the henhouse. "Oh, my god, I'm your daddy."

Two main truamas this episode. A suicidal man who ODs on tylenol is faking to get out of a wedding. Deals mostly with Ray here.

College student stabbed brutally in her dorm. Abby/Luka/Sam run this trauma with Clemente stepping in to help as time goes on. She needs a surgeon but they are bare bones on the surgical staff today...major conference in town.

Neela and Dubenko share a cab to the conference. She's presenting a talk and Dubenko is there to cheer her on, be supportive. He gives her some tips on presenting, tries to convince her to change specialties, explains why he likes surgery. Calls another doctor an ass (not to his face, just to Neela)

Neela is nervous. Has flashbacks to a school play where she fell off the stage. Dubenko gives her a beta blocker to calm her down. Duringher speech she has difficulties with the audio visual equiptment, protesters throwing paint balloons and she FAINTS.

Odd patient comes in and Clemente and Abby meet the rig, someone trying to break a world record by living ina "biopod" in the bottom of the lake for over a month. She had to make a quick ascent and it's implied that she's suffering from the bends.
