Director: Leslie Linka Glatter

Work dates 1/16-1/25

(Yes, they really are making that joke with the title.)

The major storyline is that a 60ish very wealthy guy comes into the ER because of an episode with a chronic illness. He's impressed with the care he receives, particularly from Sam. He wants her to be his private nurse, and for her and Alex to live at his mansion. They're looking for a name actor for an undetermined number of episodes.

Weaver's operation is scheduled, but she keeps cancelling, and the surgeon discusses her issues with the procedure.

Neela goes to a military spouses club meeting and gets into an uncomfortable discussion about politics; other fairly random patients/storylines of little interest -- jocks had a fight at a bar, teen in a car accident, etc.

Abby had her first 3-D ultrasound and shows the pic to Kerry. Awwww.

Ray treats a patient, his jewelry'ss cutting the skin. It's gross!! Ewwww.

Sam's patient is Richard and he suffers from a disease with a horrible name. I don't even know how to say it! His bone marrow doesn't make enough red blood cells. But he likes Sam.

Ah, poor Alex, some kids stole his cell phone.

Sam's patient fired his doctor and his home care nurse.

He wants Sam to be his personal nurse and to move in with Alex.

Sam's freaked out, but she likes it when he says she's competent and efficient.

A couple of girls are brought in with some disease straight from Medical Investigation. Me, I loved this show!!

The staff was exposed and they have to get shots. Ouch!

Abby is freaked out because she doesn't want to expose the baby to drugs.

The drugs for the disease they were all exposed, sweetheart.

This Daisy doesn't understand about Medicine and she doesn't understand about Law either. Will you forgive me? Kerry gives Abby some papers right before her surgery and Abby asks if she shouldn't sign something.

Neela made good friends at the military Spouse Club.

But she makes some enemies when she use the words 'brainwashed', 'pseudo-patriotic delusion', and 'any weapons of mass destruction'.

Neela also makes enemies because her cookies are not homemade.

Ready for this kids? If Kerrys goes through her surgery she will throw away her crutch. For good!

Kerry wants to cancel her surgery and her doctor isn't buying it. Yay!

And Morris? He knows for sure that raw oysters are aphrodisiac. Ew!

Well, sweethearts, I think someone has been listening to you.
Patient to Abby: "It's all about you, isn't it?'

Abby feels the baby moving for the first time.

Luka gives Abby the shot for the horrible Medical Investigation sort of disease.

Sam's patient is rich. Carter type of rich.

Yes, honey, Luka's there treating a patient with Pratt. He's also trying to calm Abby, who's worried about the baby.

Abby doesn't know if they are having a boy or a girl.

She's the one who diagnoses the Medical Investigation type of disease. Do you think she watched that lovely show and its lovely leading man?

Neela says some really insensitive stuff at the Spouses' Meeting. She seems to know several of the folks prior to the meeting and likes them, don't know why she finds it necessary to air her political views at that moment.

Abby and Kerry go for coffee, which is weird because Kerry is supposedly having her hip surgery that afternoon. I guess nobody ever aspirates in the OR at County. There is a brief part where Kerry says that she isn't afraid of surgery but asks Abby what she sees when she looks at her. It does appear that Kerry is rather attached to her image of herself as the girl with the crutch and that's what's been keeping her from doing it.

Luka and Pratt take care of a guy who got into a fight with some buddies while they were drinking and has a serious head injury. His pals show up, they are still drunk and are goofing around; not realizing their pal is in bad shape until he codes. They all attend the University of Michigan except for unconscious guy who goes to UConn. The fight was over their basketball teams. Typical Wolverines, what can I say? Takes them a while to catch on that he might die and they act like asses in the meantime, much to Pratt's dismay. Luka refers to 'March Madness' as 'March Stupid'.

The sick girls, one of whom passes out while driving and is killed in the accident, probably have bacterial meningitis. We saw something similar a few seasons back with the college girl that Susan took care of who kissed the boy at the party. Anyway, very contagious, oftentimes fatal, need to contact everyone who has been near the victims and give them antibiotics.

Sam indeed takes care of Richard Elliot, a very rich man who has a disease where his bone marrow does not make red blood cells. He’s rich, handsome, with two kids living elsewhere. He comes to the ER because he fainted in his car and the driver brought him in. His “boutique doctor” also doesn’t answer his calls. Sam’s carefree manner and excellent service earns her an offer of a part time job taking care of Mr. Elliot which includes living quarters for her and Alex at his house, and where she can keep her ER job while the housekeeper watches Alex when necessary.

A teenage driver with a friend are leaving the mall and something happens, resulting in them hitting a jogger. The jogger will be okay after surgery, but the passenger is ejected and dies. However, the driver has some sort of infectious disease (spreading bruises) that requires the entire staff (not to mention family and school-mates) to take Cipro as a preventative.

Trouble is, Abby is one of those who treated her and needs to take a shot instead of the pills that everyone is using. Luka offers to give it to her because it isn’t done in the arm. Later, as they are walking to the Jumbo Mart, Abby tries to express her concern about taking the meds and Luka seems to take her less than seriously, brushing away her concerns. I don’t think Abby is happy about that.

Neela does go to a military spouses meeting and has one friend there who is very pregnant. She brings store-bought cookies because she had a baking mishap. The conversation moves to politics and Neela expresses her concerns about the war while at the same time insisting she supports the troops (and her husband). Guess Gallant is back in Iraq. And awkward time was had by all.

Kerry, who has cancelled her surgery several times, finally goes ahead. She asks Abby to sign something (perhaps a power of attorney) and then dreads what she is getting into.

Luka and Pratt treat a guy who was in a bar fight, seemingly over March Madness (the annual March college basketball championships). Turns out, the guy was hit by one of his friends. The patient deteriorates and has to be rushed to CT to confirm a brain bleed.

Edited to add: Abby gets her first 3-D sonogram (?) of the baby and Kerry can't tell if it is a boy or a girl. And Abby feels the baby kick.

Just sneaking in before I start work to add that there is a very interesting cut from Sam smiling (she has just been talking to Mr. Elliott) to a worried Abby talking to Luka about getting the shot. I've speculated that when Luka told Sam about the baby, Sam would say something to Abby. Since it's clear we are going to get a step by step exploration of Abby's pregnancy and its effects on her and the couple she is in, I'm thinking all we will get from Sam is some catty line, letting Abby know that Luka tried to have a baby with her too. I'd much prefer this to some ugly imbroglio involving her jealousy. 12.01.2006

So impressed that he will offer her a job as his personnal nurse! Not only that, he offers to have her and Alex move into his mansion. Will she accept? A young woman comes in after a car crash but it is found that her symptoms were not caused by it. A few drunk college jocks are treated after things heated up in a bar. Weaver is having serious doubts about her hip surgery. During a meeting of a military spouses' club, Neela and the rest of the club members discuss the politics of war. Abby treats Arthur, a 40-year-old gay man, who supposedly tripped and fell in a coffee shop while trying to discipline some children.
